About the Scheme
Brief
The Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY) is a flagship government scheme launched on April 8, 2015, to provide affordable, collateral-free credit to micro and small enterprises.
Objective
- Bring underserved and unbanked micro-enterprises into the formal financial system
- Encourage self-employment and grassroots job creation
- Support small businesses to improve income levels in both rural and urban areas
- Specifically target women, SC/ST, and OBC entrepreneurs
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants must be between 18 and 65 years old
- Individuals, proprietary concerns, partnership firms, and private/public limited companies
- Must be engaged in non-farm income-generating activities (manufacturing, trading, or services) or allied agriculture
- Applicant must not be a defaulter to any bank or financial institution and should have a satisfactory credit track record
Benefits
The scheme is structured into four categories based on the stage of business growth:
- Shishu: Loans up to ₹50,000 for startups and initial stage needs.
- Kishore: Loans from ₹50,001 to ₹5 lakh for established businesses seeking expansion
- Tarun: Loans from ₹5,00,001 to ₹10 lakh for mature businesses
- Tarun Plus: Loans from ₹10 lakh to ₹20 lakh, specifically for entrepreneurs who have successfully repaid previous Tarun category loans
