About the Scheme

Brief The scheme "Free Education for Sports Medal Winners / Participants of National/ International Events", introduced by the University Grants Commission, Ministry of Education, aims to assist medal-winning sportspersons pursuing higher education and motivate them to achieve excellence in sports and academics. Applicable to national medalists and international participants, it ensures their holistic development. Objectives To support and motivate national and international level sportspersons to pursue higher education by providing free education, thereby promoting excellence in both sports and academics. Eligibility Criteria The Scholarship will be provided to the Medal winners of National games and participants in recognized international sporting events recognized by the World University Service, International Olympic Committee, and Olympic Committee of Asia (OCA) who have taken admitted to the Universities/Colleges/Institutions as indicated below: Universities/Institutions/Colleges included under sections 2(f) and 12(b) of the UGC Act, 1956. Deemed to be Universities under section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956 which are eligible to receive grants in aid from UGC. Universities/Institutions/Colleges funded by Central/ State Govt. Institutes of National Importance. (ii) In the subsequent years this scholarship shall depend on their subsequent sports performance. Benefits Categories i – iv (Olympics / World / Asian / Commonwealth / SAF / World University Games): Tuition Fees: Actual (for Bachelor’s, PG, Diploma, PG Degree) Monthly Stipend: M.Phil – ₹7,500 + actual fees Ph.D. – As per UGC JRF norms MBA / Professional courses – ₹7,500 + actual fees Hostel (Boarding & Lodging): Actual Kit Allowance: ₹7,500 – ₹15,000 per annum (as per category) Special Courses Abroad: As per Govt. of India norms Category v (SAF Participation / National Medalists): Tuition Fees: 75% of actual (Bachelor’s, PG, Diploma, PG Degree) Monthly Stipend: M.Phil – ₹5,000 + actual fees Ph.D. – ₹7,500 + actual fees MBA / Professional courses – ₹5,000 + actual fees Kit Allowance: ₹6,000 per annum For categories i -iv Hostel Facilities (Boarding and Lodging): Actual Allowances for special courses abroad: As per Govt of India’s norms

Required Documents:

To be submitted by the Candidate (through University/College): Application form in the prescribed format. Participation / Medal Certificate as proof of eligibility, attested by the Registrar / Principal. To be submitted by the University / College / Institution to UGC (Annually): Statement of selected students along with proof of scholarship disbursement. Annual Progress Report on sports performance and academic achievement. Utilization Certificate (UC) for the previous grant released. Justification certificate for continuation of scholarship, issued by the Director / HoD and forwarded by the Registrar / Principal.
