About the Scheme
Brief
The Prime Ministers Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) is a flagship, credit-linked subsidy scheme aimed at generating sustainable self-employment opportunities by supporting the establishment of micro-enterprises in the non-farm sector
Objectives
- To create continuous and sustainable employment in rural and urban areas
- To bring together dispersed traditional artisans and unemployed youth to provide self-employment
- To provide local employment opportunities and stop the migration of rural youth to urban areas
- To enhance the wage-earning capacity of workers and contribute to overall employment growth
Eligibility Criteria
- Minimum 18 years
- 8th standard pass for projects over ₹10 lakh (Mfg) / ₹5 lakh (Service)
- Only new projects are eligible
- No income ceiling
- Individuals, SHGs, Co-operative Societies, and Trusts
Benefits
- Maximum Project Cost: ₹50 lakh (Manufacturing), ₹20 lakh (Service)
- Subsidy: 15-25% for general category, 25-35% for special categories
- Loan Component: Bank-financed with reduced borrower burden
